Thanksgiving Weekend, October 9 - 11, 2004

Autumn in Central Ontario is breathtaking! We wanted to experience it first hand and knowing it would likely be too cool for camping, I went searching for a motel near Algonquin Provincial Park. The most important thing for us was they had to accept dogs. After searching the internet, I came upon "The Tulip Inn" in Huntsville. Well, we hit the jackpot! It's located just off of HWY 11 (exit 226), and next to Arrowhead Provincial Park. It's a quaint motel that is kept very clean, and the owners are friendly. Since they do allow dogs of any size, it is a very popular spot for us animal lovers! Each of the rooms is fully equipped with an in-room coffee maker, telephone, computer data ports, cable television, private bathroom and personal heat and air conditioning control. You can also rent VHS movies from the front desk, plus buy pop, chips & chocolate. All rooms contain a refrigerator and the double rooms also have microwaves. The kitchenette units are also equipped with the addition of a small table and chairs, refrigerator, two-burner stove, a sink and include utensils, pots and pans for cooking, plates, cups and cutlery. Some of the rooms have a private deck, and smoking and non-smoking rooms are available. They also have a deluxe room with fireplace! If you're looking for something a little more romantic or for a group of people, they also have a secluded cottage. They have a private beach & hiking trail, and of course two provincial parks nearby for more hiking & sightseeing. There isn't a restaurant on-site, but a quick drive into Huntsville and you can find lots of venues to choose from. (They do have continental breakfast each morning, either for room service or in the lobby.) The prices are reasonable... we paid $129 per night. We loved our stay so much, we returned for the May 24th weekend this year, and got the room with the fireplace. It was only $99 per night!
