Fredericton Inn Kim ~ New Brunswick, Canada
February 2006

Great Inn, very comfortable, but even better food!! Close to shopping at the " top of the hill" including the Regent Mall , the Cineplex, Fredericton Mall, many restaurants (both fast food and leisure atmospheres) , service stations, hospital, etc. Close to the highway for tourists too.

Delta FrederictonKathy ~ New Brunswick, Canada
August 2005

We love the Delta Fredericton (506 457 7000) which is situated along the scenic Saint John River in Fredericton NB, and stay there regularly when in town on business. As a result we are members of Delta Privilege which has to be one of the best frequent customer reward programs. At the top level (Platinum) there are guaranteed rooms with 48 hour notice, unlimited upgrades, and a dining room credit, and even a welcome snack on arrival. The other levels offer good benefits as well.

The staff is exceptionally friendly, and the service seems to be even better than when it was a Sheraton Hotel a few years ago. The rooms are well maintained and the decor is fine. Some are newer than others, but overall it is up to date. We usually stay on the business floor , (ask for a river view!!) but have enjoyed upgrades to suites on various other levels. We decline an upgrade if the view is to the front (parking lot). The staff say the rooms on the 6th floor are the best. Windows really open so you can hear the night river sounds and get a fresh breeze. Balconies are limited but available with the suites. Very comfy triple sheeted beds. (I am not sure if they are on all of the floors, but the business floor and suites have them)

The business floor offers complimentary hors d'oeurves in the evening and a continental breakfast in one of the suites.

The location is very convenient to downtown yet is away from the hustle of the city. The hotel is located right along the river walking paths, and is a 45 minute ( I walk fast) walk from the Beaverbrook Gallery and Theatre New Brunswick using those paths. Although it would likely be safe I would not walk after dark. It is a shorter walk to the Officers Square, Government House (where the Lieutenant Governor resides), and Queen Street and other downtown shops.

There is ample (but outdoors) parking at the hotel.

Bruno's, the hotel dining room is the best restaurant in town. It features a nightly "fresh board". Wednesday is pasta night with interesting pasta specials. Every night there is good beef, lamb and seafood as well as pasta and lighter dishes are available. The lamb is always excellent as is the salmon. A very good wine list, with a low mark-up ($15 per bottle, so the more expensive wine, the better the saving , that's my theory anyhow!) In the summer the patio serves light food all day and Bruno's seats customers outdoors if desired. Nothing is better on a warm summer night than to watch the sun go down over the river over dinner. We were lucky enough to be there one night when there was a Jazz quartet playing outdoors till sunset. What a wonderful evening! They also had a beef BBQ along with corn boil outdoors that night. Not as good as the regular menu, but a fun change. There is a decent (but not exceptional ) breakfast buffet, and a regular bargain lunch with a pasta selection prepared to order, wonderful soups, salads and light dessert. I forget the exact cost, but less than $10 per person. It can be busy with locals. The staff in the restaurant are young, friendly and attentive. Some are university students from "up the hill" at UNB.

The hotel gift shop , "Carrington's" is exceptional, small and packed . They have very nice jewellery (much of it local, most Canadian) women's and men's clothing, toiletries and interesting gifts, among other things. It is truly one of the best little hotel shops I have seen. I make a special visit every time I am there. There is always lots of new merchandise. The young owner has great taste, is usually there, and all of the staff are very friendly and helpful.

The hotel attracts conventions so you may need to reserve in advance. We have been very grateful for the guaranteed available room for frequent guests, because there were times in the past we could not get a room.

Outdoor pool (small, but never crowded), indoor pool and upgraded fitness facility, hairdresser and beauty salon are on the premises. I never use them as the walking trail by the river is so pleasant.

Are there any flaws? Well we used to have trouble with accurate reservations, but new management seems to have solved that. Although the rooms are fine, some of the furniture needs touch ups. It is a small thing, but I hate the fingerprints that seem etched on the brass elevator button panels (it makes me think of germs! But I am prissy about that!) Overall the level of cleanliness and repair is quite good and typical of a good hotel.

Overall this is a very welcoming and comfortable hotel that is as good as many upscale hotels we have stayed at. Some have more luxuries, more choices, but overall I have always enjoyed my visits here, and would recommend the dining room as the best in Fredericton.Smaller and fewer services, but what it does have is very good. The friendliness is outstanding.
