Have you stayed at a Florida hotel? Share your vacation experiences with others.| Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort | Linda, Mike and Sarah |
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, for the first week in August 2007. We had a great experience at the hotel. Very reasonable rates, definitely a family hotel with lots of activities for kids, which our 9 year old daughter enjoyed.
Within the hotel there are 2 restaurants, open at separate times. One for breakfast and lunch, and the second for dinner, and late night snacks. Kids under age 12 eat free, and they have a buffett breakfast every morning. A little bit pricey, but lots of variety. There is also a convenience store, gift shop, and arcade area. There is a kids club which is open all day and to approximately 10:00 at night. They have a theatre within the hotel which plays Disney movies throughout the day, and the kids club also enjoyed a lot of activites at pool side.
When we first checked in, we were put at a room at the back of the building and it was a mediocre room, facing the parking lot. When we asked to change, we were put in a new room right away, above the pool. Much nicer room, great view, and changed easily without a problem. The rooms are 'basic', but clean, has a microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker and safe.
The pool was amazing. Kidney shaped pool, with sprinklers in the middle and lots of tables and chairs around. Very clean, the water was always warm. It never seemed to be overly crowded so never a problem with getting chairs. There is also a kiddy pool, and two hot tubs. There is a snack shop where you can get burgers and fries and drinks, reasonably priced. Late afternoon the bar is open and music is played.
The hotel itself is in a great location. A 10 minute bus shuttle to the Disney parks (complimentary from the hotel), and a 10 minute ride to differant restaurants and outlet malls. After checking in, you are sent to the "Disney Ticket" counter to get a 'welcome package' the shuttle bus schedule, etc. You can buy discount tickets there, for a really low price, but it involves touring a time share, which we didn't do. The schedule has a lot of differant times throughout the day to go the parks. Going there was not a problem, but our pick up was about an hour late at the park.

Each evening, we drove to International Drive, about 20 minutes, park and just walk around. It was always bustling at night; lots of souvenir shops, restaurants and clubs. There were also a few touristy attractions you could buy tickets for i.e. the "upside down building".
Overall we liked the hotel. If you are looking for a basic hotel that's clean and reasonably priced, this is the one for you!
